The great wall

We’ve seen many pictures of the great wall and thought we knew what to expect of it. However, walking on the wall and seeing its endless length and the surrounding mountainous terrain was a completely unique experience and a dream come true for the travel bee that hadn't seen it before. The mid-October autumn foliage had lain a colorful carpet over the terrain and the sun finally came trough the thick pollution layer of Beijing.

We jumped on a 2 hour long local bus ride for $1.8 (12DKK) per person from Jishuitan metro station to the popular Badaling section built during the Ming dynasty. The Great Wall at Badaling is divided into a northern and southern section and we soon discovered that the southern section was less crowded and a steeper climb.

Southern section of the Great Wall, Badaling section

The Badaling section dates back to the Ming dynasty and has been restored

We walked on the southern section to get away from the crowds (which can be seen in the background)

A steep climb up and down the stairs between the watch towers.

Nick walked the wall for the second time

At the end of the southern Badaling section

Thanks for tuning in!
