A break in the Korean tropics

After 10 days in the sparkling capital, Seoul, we flew south to the top Korean honeymoon destination and natural heritage site Jeju Island. The island is marketed as the Hawaii of Korea,  and its landscape is dominated by extinct volcanos and dense, green “Jurassic” woods.  We settled down on the southern side of the Island, in a small charming harbor town called Seogowipo, which served as a great base to explore the island by bus and on foot. Having been on the road for more than 20 days, we appreciated a break in the quiet and serene atmosphere of the sleepy city, only interrupted by the visit of a large typhoon which knocked down a few light poles and trees. We "shifted into a neutral" and went for long walks along the seashore following traditional Jeju trail routes (Olle trails) and climbed the 1950m high volcano, Mt. Hallasan, and the tuff cone, Seongsan Ilchulbong.
