Two travel bees
and our travel diary

The UK roadtrip ends in England
Bath
Late August we drove from Wales to the golden Limestone colored city of Bath where we spent much needed sunny days in the picturesque town.
River Avon flowing through bath
Bath is known for its Georgian architecture and is the only (entire town) in the UK which is granted UNESCO world heritage status. We enjoyed the intergration of old and new buildings of golden coloured Bath stone and the architectural consistency of the city.

Stonehenge and Avebury stone circle
We continued south the the worldfamous tourist destination Stonehenge, where we walked the "free path" (admission free walk) to the ancient Neolithic and Bronze age monument. Stonehenge consists of a few standing stones from a much larger pre-historic monument, has more than 1 million visitors a year and can only be viewed from a short distance. The masses of tourists did not prevent us from admiring the construction built in several phases over 4 - 5.000 years ago.

Stonehenge gets approved!

A few hours drive from Stonehenge lies the even bigger ancient monument "Avebury stone circles": The largest stone circle in Europe. As opposed to the more famous, Stonehenge, you can touch and climb on the stones as much as you want.

Cotswolds villages and Stratford-upon-Avon
Driving north we spent a couple of days visiting The Cotswolds with rolling green hills and endless picture-perfect golden colored stone house villages.
We also paid a visit to the birthplace house of Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon and his wife Anne Hathaway's childhood cottage.

Two days in buzzing London
The final destination of our UK trip was London. Always an exciting, diverse and fun city irrespectable of visiting the city for the first time (Nick) or the x'th (Benedicte).
We walked the tourist trail passing Big Ben, but also felt we saw the "real London": the residential areas, the city's very diverse neighbourhoods when we walked (instead of taking the tube) from Waterloo to Camden Market and the Natural History Museum.
