and our travel diary

Twinkling Seoul Part I
We made a big leap in time from the Soviet-style Ulaanbaatar to the sparkling neon-colored futuristic Seoul. South Korea’s economic development from one of the world poorest countries to a high-income country within one generation is known as the “miracle of the Han River”. The country is now dominating the global consumer electronics, mobile broadband and smartphone markets and is one of Asia’s most advanced democracies with universal healthcare, high governmental transparency and with one of the most developed rule of law in East Asia.

In recent years, the Korean wave (a strong interest in Korean TV dramas, music (K-pop and K-drama) and culture) has washed over the world with its synthesized music, dance routines and colourful outfits.

We had little prior knowledge of South Korea, its culture, current status and history and we enjoyed every minute of getting to know the country!

Photo of a photo session. Korean girls in the Hanbok garden

The charming neighborhood of Mangwon where we stayed. Every day we went down to our favourite shop at the local food market (picture to the right) to buy Korean specialities and groceries

Attempting to cook the Korean dish Bibimbap

We signed up for a local Badminton event at one of the public facilities of Seoul and had great fun playing against locals and international students
